A Little Book Haul

Emma | The Feminine Mystique | The Fragrant Pharmacy | Lolita

Since I left school (7 years ago may I add, where does the time go!) I haven’t been reading as much as I’d like to. I remember when I was a young girl I really enjoyed reading the Series of Unfortunate Events books, obviously Harry Potter and shameful to admit… The Twilight series. I remember finding them so easy to read I’d finish a book in a week or so. Nowadays I can’t seem to read a page without instantly forgetting what I just read. Maybe there are too many distractions in my life now what with social media and Netflix being around. So I’ve tried to pick out books I think I’ll really love. Ones that will have me hooked from beginning to end! These 4 books should last me a couple of months so maybe I could write up reviews if thats something you guys would like..

1.The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan – The book was written in 1963 and is widely credited with sparking the beginning of second-wave feminism in the United States. A book that talks about the struggles of an average american woman. I’ve been reading lots of feminist related articles recently and want to broaden my knowledge on the subject.

2.Emma by Jane Austen – A classic. Published in 1815. I’m sure you’ve read it. A book I’m sure my mother has wanted me to read for a long time. Emma is about a girl totally unbothered by love or marriage but loves the idea of medaling in the romantic lives of others. I’m super excited to get tucked into this!

3. Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov – After watching the film (1997 version) and loving it I went straight out to buy the book. The story centres around a man named Humbert who falls in love with Delores, a 12 year old girl. Sounds controversial but in fact regarded as one of the prime achievements in 20th century literature.

4. The Fragrant Pharmacy – Valerie Ann Worwood – Not a novel but a complete guide on how to use essential oils and what to use them for. I’ve been reading up on aromatherapy for about 2 years now and have learnt so much about how they affect the mind and body. This book is going to help me make some awesome recipes.

Have you read any interesting books recently? What was your favourite as a child?
